Summertime, at least for me, has always carried a feeling of freedom. Maybe it is because everyone is out of school, or that I spend more time outside. Whatever the reason I love that feeling of freedom. Yet if I am not careful my Summer can fly by with nothing for me to show when it’s over. Do you ever feel the same way?
I want to live even my Summers intentionally and with purpose. I want to look back on my Summer and see projects completed, progress made, times of rest and refreshment, and most importantly memories made with those I love. If that is your desire also then I am going to share some practical way to have a more intentional and purposeful Summer.
4 Ways to Make the Most of Each Moment this Summer.
Set Summer Goals.
Summer is perfect time to set some short term goals or take more time to work on your yearly ones.
When thinking about Summer goals you could ask yourself these questions. What projects have I been wanting to tackle but haven’t had the chance yet? Is there a habit that I would like to start – like exercising, eating healthier, getting up earlier, creating a morning routine, or reading for 15 minutes a day? What could I do this Summer to create a better future for me and my family? It could be setting up a new budget, de-cluttering, simplifying, selling your house, or starting a new business.
Take an hour and think through what goals you would like to set for the Summer. Can I encourage you not to just make a list, take action! Break down your goals and set aside time to get them done.
Plan Family Time.
Take advantage of this time with your family and enjoy the time without school to worry about. There are a number of ways you could do this including: a weekly movie night with popcorn, a picnic and day at the park, a game night, a walk on a beautiful day, or whatever your family enjoys doing.
Just make it happen, and by saying that I mean put it on the calendar. We both know how life is and if we aren’t intentional in taking time with our family it probably won’t happen. Leave the laundry, dishes, and dirty floors, they will be there tomorrow. Instead spend time laughing with those you love, because that is what truly matters.
Be Intentional about Rest.
Do you feel like you have done nothing but run yourself ragged since the beginning of the year? Well I encourage you to put the breaks on this Summer. Determine to spend some time resting and doing things that refresh you. This will look different for everyone, because what refreshes you may not be what refreshes someone else.
If you are not really sure what refreshes you, ask yourself these questions:
What do I look forward to doing?
What brings me joy?
What leaves me feeling refreshed and excited about life?
What am I passionate about?
What could I spend hours and hours doing?
These questions should give you a clear lead as to what kind of things refresh you.
Look for ways to bless others.
You know that card or text message you keep meaning to send to a struggling friend, or that family you want to invite over but haven’t been able to? If you are anything like me good intentions like the ones I just listed hardly ever get put into action. Well, now is the perfect time to change that. When you have a thought for a way to be a blessing to someone else, grab it and run with it. Acting on those thoughts will bring you such a special joy because you took the time to make a difference.
I honestly believe that these four things will help you have a more intentional and purposeful Summer, but only if you act on them. When Summer is over you’ll be able to look back at all the things you’ve accomplished and the memories you’ve made, and you’ll be glad you made the decision now to live with purpose. So how will you spend your Summer this year?
